SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team rallied past early Southern Utah advances to ultimately secure a 4-3 win on Friday at home.
 
CARDINALS DEFENDING THE NEST
Southern Utah captured the doubles point to begin the competition 1-0. But the Cardinals answered on their home courts, coming into the singles matches eager for team points.
 
Jelena Dordan (6-1, 6-1), Brandelyn Fulgenzi (6-4, 6-1) and Victoria Kareh (6-1, 6-3) dominated the first three matches of singles, solidifying three points for UIW.
 
It was in the fifth singles match, played by Sara Djurdjevic, that UIW locked in its reign. Djurdjevic held steady through the first set to top Southern Utah's Charity Siago 7-5. Ready for more, in the second set Djurdjevic held nothing back and bested her opponent, winning the set 6-2,  clinching the match for Djurdjevic and the dual for UIW.
