SAN ANTONIO – In its final game of 2019, the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated Paul Quinn, 79-62, on Saturday afternoon behind breakout performances from seniors Imani Robinson and Charmaine McBride.
The Cardinals wasted no time getting on the board when Brittney Stafford hit a 3-pointer on the first possession of the game after Alexis Henry won the tip.
Robinson and McBride led the team to their highest-scoring first quarter this season with six points each for the Cardinals to take the lead at the end of the first quarter, 24-10.
The Lady Tigers' fast-paced offense, led by senior guard Destinee Medlock's six points, cut the Cardinal's lead to 38-29 going into the break.
Paul Quinn would come out strong in the third quarter shooting 4-5 from the top of the key, but UIW held on with Kara Speer and Robinson scoring in the paint.
Early in the fourth quarter, Paul Quinn sunk back to back threes and one in the paint that would cut UIW's lead 57-51. McBride led the Cardinals in the final 10 minutes making three from the paint and grabbing five crucial rebounds. Speer's 3-pointer that was followed up by a steal and another triple by Macy Ray were the final touches that would lift UIW to its fourth win of the season.
