SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word fell in its first Southland Conference contest to Central Arkansas, 47-37, on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals had a strong first quarter, led by
Kara Speer's five points, and took an early 12-8 lead.
UIW struggled in the second, going on a four-minute scoring drought that allowed UCA to pull within two and eventually the game. The Sugar Bears then went on an 11-2 run to capture a lead at the break, 25-16.
Central Arkansas continued to pull away in the third quarter. Senior guard
Imani Robinson forced the action and piled up eight points in the frame, but the Cardinals were unable to climb their way back in the fourth.
