Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cardinals fall to a tough Ohio team on the road

ATHENS, Ohio – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell on the road against Ohio on Saturday afternoon, 78-41.

UIW faced a tough challenge in Ohio, a team that made it to the WNIT quarterfinals a season ago and is already off to a strong start this year with a win over Ohio State last week.

UIW was off to a strong defensive start, playing solid on-ball defense but allowed passing lanes to open up for Ohio. The Bobcats took the lead early in the game, putting up 18 points to UIW's nine in the first quarter.

The Cardinals went through a seven-and-a-half minute scoring drought in the second quarter, surrendering seven points off of turnovers and giving the Bobcats a dominating lead going into the break at 48-18.

UIW held Ohio to their lowest scoring quarter in the final 10 minutes, putting up 14 points of their own. Imani Robinson, who led the team with 13 points on the game, had a team-high seven points in the quarter as she posted up multiple times while drawing an and-one. The Cardinals ultimately fell 78-41 as the clock ran out.

NOTABLES:
  • Robinson matched a season-high 13 points (last vs Schreiner 11/5/19). Now she is at 986 career points, just 14 shy of reaching the 1,000 career points milestone.
  • Brittney Stafford now leads the team with six assists this season.
  • Destiny Jenkins had a team-high three steals against the Bobcats. She now leads the team with 10 steals on the season.
