SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's cross country team set for Fayetteville, Arkansas, to compete in the Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival on Saturday morning.
The Chili Pepper Festival, at Agri Park, will host a field of 80 teams including host, Arkansas, with the No. 2 and No. 25 women's and men's teams respectively. The men will run their first 8K of the season beginning at 9 a.m. (CT), while the women's squad races in their first 5k of the season beginning at 10:40 a.m.
THE CARDINALS
The women's team goes into the race with two team wins at home meets. Sophomore
Alia Henderson snagged her first career win at the UIW Invitational (Sept. 14) with a career best 18:52.2 in a 6K. The team is ranked No. 8 in the South Central Region by the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. They moved up seven spots in the rankings from the first week.
The men's team is led by freshman
Armando Villarreal, who took first at the UIW Invite (his first career win) and led the squad at the UIW Opener.
