SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team travels north on I-35 to San Marcos, Texas, for the Creeds & Crests Classic on Friday and Saturday. UIW takes on James Madison at 10 a.m. (CT) on Friday before facing cross-town rival UTSA at 4:30 p.m. The Cardinals square off against host Texas State on Saturday at noon.

THE CARDINALS
- UIW finished 0-3 overall at the I-10 Classic in New Orleans on Aug. 24-25, but six freshmen -- Chloe Patton, Bethany Clapp, Kendall Kilchrist, Carissa McGarity, Emily Perez, and Pilar Gonzaba -- gained experience throughout the tournament.
- Kilchrist led UIW, posting double-digit assists in all three matches. After recording 16 in the tournament-opener against UTEP, Kilchrist registered 14 against both Louisiana-Lafayette and against Tulane in the final two matches.
- Senior Autumn Lockley registered a team-high 37 kills through three matches. She earned all-tournament for her performance.
- Clapp ranks second on the team with 22 kills and boasts a .306 attack percentage.

SCOUTING JAMES MADISON
- The Dukes are 3-1 overall after hosting the Tropical Smoothie Invitational during opening weekend.
- They opened with a sweep of Fairfield before falling, 3-2, to Wichita State. They closed out the weekend with back-to-back wins against Delaware State (3-0) and Missouri (3-1).
- Briley Brind'Amour led JMU with 52 kills and a .308 attack percentage through the four matches.

SCOUTING UTSA
- The Roadrunners are 3-0 overall after sweeping the Army Invitational on Aug. 24-25.
- UTSA defeated San Francisco, 3-1, to open the tournament before sweeping Quinnipiac in the second match. It closed the tournament with a 3-2 victory over host Army.
- Brianna McCulloch had a team-high 47 kills and a .340 attack percentage for UTSA.

SCOUTING TEXAS STATE
- The Bobcats are 0-3 overall after competing in the Hampton Inn & Suites Waco North Baylor Invitational on Aug. 24-25.
- Texas State was swept in each match against Marquette, No. 16 Baylor, and LSU.
- Janell Fitzgerald and Megan Porter lead the Bobcats with 18 kills each.

UP NEXT
UIW takes a break from tournament competition, traveling to UT Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. first serve. The Cardinals then open their home slate with a Sept. 7 matchup against UT Arlington. The contest against the Mavericks is slated for a 6 p.m. first serve in the McDermott Convocation Center.
