HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearkats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second frame, but UIW responded in the fourth.
Eddy Gonzalez used a sacrifice fly to drive in
Kyle Bergeron before
Christian Rodriguez smacked a two-out, two-RBI double down the left field line to score
Ryan Gonzalez and
Ryan Flores for the 3-1 advantage.

Sam Houston cut into UIW's lead in the top of the fifth, scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field, but the Cardinals answered in the bottom of the frame. E. Gonzalez reached on a Bearkat error and
Ridge Rogers scored on the play to put UIW up 4-2.

The Bearkats drew even in the top of the ninth frame, scoring on a two-RBI single through the right side to force extra innings. SHSU then took a 5-4 lead with a solo home run in the top of the 10th before securing the 5-4 victory in the series opener.

- Four Cardinals -- Bergeron (2), E. Gonzalez (2), Rogers (2) and Flores (2) -- had multi-hit games.
- Bergeron leads the team with 22 multi-hit games, while E. Gonzalez has 21. Rogers has 17 multi-hit games and Flores has 16 multi-hit games.
