BEAUMONT, Texas -- The No. 1 University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team battled hard, but ultimately the Cardinals dropped a 4-2 decision to fourth-seeded Lamar on Saturday at the Southland Conference Tennis Tournament. UIW finished the season 11-10, marking the first winning season since 2014.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIW's duo of Paco Bendana and Joey Vatanadilok defeated Carlos Paton Canal and Sebastian Santibanez, 6-3, on court two in doubles to start the match. After falling on court one, the Cardinals clinched the doubles point when Caleb Dyer and Ivanhoe Lissanevitch topped Nicolas Mayr and Roy Stepanov, 6-3.
 
UIW took a 2-0 advantage when Sebastian Mortier bested Lamar's Arthur Serafim, 6-2, 6-4. Lamar then took the lead, winning on courts four, five and two before securing the 4-2 victory with a win on court six.
