SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team hosts Abilene Christian on Saturday, Apr. 14 at 11 a.m. as the Cardinals are fighting for a spot in the upcoming Southland Conference Tennis Tournament. Saturday will be the final home match for seniors Maria Batchinsky, Rachel Sadiq, and Matea Zemunik.
 
BATTLING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT
 
UIW enters Saturday's match in a share of seventh place in the SLC standings with a 5-15 overall record and a 3-6 mark in conference play. The top six teams reach the SLC Tournament. ACU (12-7 overall, 6-3 SLC) is in fourth place.
 
THE OPPONENT
 
ACU has won four straight, including a 7-0 whitewashing of Stephen F. Austin on Mar. 31. The Wildcats end conference play at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Apr. 16.
 
ACU is 61-40 in singles competition, led by Nini Memishishi, who is 14-3 and 8-1 in SLC action. She has seen most of the action in the #3, #4, or #5 singles position. Autumn Crossnoe is 10-4 and 7-2 in conference, playing in either the #5 or #6 position.
 
In doubles, Memishishi and Lucile Pothier are 9-2, primarily playing in the #2 slot.
 
THE CARDINAL FILE
 
UIW has the most Southland Conference victories in program history this year. Zemunik has the most singles victories for the Cardinals, going 9-10, all in the #1 position. Jelena Dordan is 9-8 and a team-best 5-3 in conference play, all in the #2 slot.
 
The duo of Victoria Kareh and Zemunik are 7-8 and 4-3 in SLC competition, all in the #1 position, while the team of Dordan and Alejandra Tamayo are 6-6 and 4-1 in conference in the #3 slot.
