COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word men's swimming and diving team fell, 149-129, at Texas A&M on Saturday in its final dual meet of 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UIW opened the meet in the 200 Medley relay, with
Vladyslav Chumak,
Oleksandr Karpenko,
Bryce Kuchan and
Christopher Lestage taking fourth with a time of 1:34.22. Cardinal teammates
Jared Wallace,
Jon Taylor,
Roberto Pinedo and
Robert Anaya came in just after with a time of 1:37.08.

Taylor then touched fifth in the 200 IM, recording a time of 2:02.81.
Leonardo Viteri,
Israel Soza and
Jorge Vazquez had times of 2:03.06, 2:08.21 and 2:11.55, respectively. In the 100 IM competition,
Beau Fusilier took second with a time of 54.04.

Fusilier was narrowly out-touched to place second in the 200 Freestyle, going 1:41.65. Chumak also snagged second in the 100 Backstroke, earning points for UIW after finishing in 51.41. Anaya and
Daniel Carrera followed, going 56.38 and 58.64, respectively. Chumak finished the 500 Freestyle competition with a time of 4:50.58.

Karpenko took second in the 100 Breaststroke (56.22), and later finished second in the 200 Breaststroke (2:05.03).

In the 200 Butterfly, Kuchan touched second to rack up points with a finishing time of 1:53.74. It was Kuchan who took first over the competition in 100 Butterfly with a strong finishing time of 50.05.

Jared Wallace and
Alex Garriga finished just after Kuchan in the 200 Butterfly with respective times of 1:55.37 and 1:55.62. Wallace finished third in the 200 Backstroke, going 2:03.75.

Cardinals
Garrett Hollcroft and Lestage tied at the finish of the 50 Freestyle, both going 21.59 to share second place. Lestage then went on to snag second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 47.38, while Hollcroft touched third in 47.92.

In diving,
Timothy Newton topped UIW's roster for 1M competition, finishing with 284.10 points.
Dawson Martinez,
Jason Checchin and
Drake McPeek followed close behind. For 3M diving, it was Martinez who took first with a dominating score of 369.16.

UIW's women's swimming and diving team faces SDSU and Oregon State on Dec. 31 in San Diego, California. The men compete again on Jan. 3, when they are set to face UC San Diego in La Jolla, California.
