COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Four Cardinals --
Brandelyn Fulgenzi,
Jelena Dordan,
Victoria Kareh, and
Sara Djurdjevic -- on the University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team concluded the ITA DI Texas Women's Regional Championships, hosted by Texas A&M.
Fulgenzi topped Sam Houston's Lusine Chobanyan (6-1, 3-6, 1-0) in the opening round and defeated Alexandra Heczey (North Texas), 3-6, 6-4, 1-0, in round two before falling (6-0, 6-1) to the eventual champion, Texas' Anna Turati, in the round of 32.
Kareh beat Texas State's Joy Chia, 6-3, 6-4, but fell to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Camille Townsend (7-5, 6-0) in round two of the single elimination tournament.
Djurdjevic topped Jordan Henry (Abilene Christian), 7-5, 5-7, 1-0, to open the tournament, but dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Texas A&M's Riley McQuaid in the second round.
In the consolation round,
Jelena Dordan defeated Sam Houston's Sahaja Yamalapalli, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0, but fell to UT-Arlington's Carla Pons-Martorell 6-3, 6-3.
