SAN MARCOS, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team was unable to climb out of last place after thunderstorms shortened Texas State's Jim West Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Wolfdancer Golf Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals shot rounds of 309 and 301 on Monday, falling to the back of the pack on day one of the event. UIW's hopes of a third-round comeback were dashed after torrential downpours, frequent lightning and tornado warnings resulted in a cancelation of the final round. The squad finished with a combined total of 610 (+34) at the tournament, coming in 12
th against an extremely talented field.
Rice won the event with a combined score of 574 (-2), followed by Southeastern Louisiana with a total of 575 (-1). UT-Arlington shot 577 (+1) to take third.
The individual title was won by Ryo Harada of New Mexico State, who finished 8-under and tied the tournament record for lowest round with a 7-under 65 in round two. Mario Carmona of Rice and Angelo Leyvani of Stephen F. Austin tied for second, each shooting 5-under.
LEADERS
Remy Huston led the Cardinals with rounds of 76 and 71 (+3) to finish 22
nd.
Caden Wylie landed in 42
nd place after rounds of 77 and 76 (+9), while
Cole Solis came in 49
th with rounds of 78 and 76 (+10).
Kevin Smith and
John Hill rounded out the squad, finishing 59
th (+16) and 65
th (+24) respectively.
