SAN ANTONIO, TX – After defeating UTSA for the first time in program history on Friday, the University of the Incarnate Word softball team was shutout in both games played on Saturday as the team lost 11-0 against New Mexico, and 6-0 to Texas State.
UIW SHUTOUT BY NEW MEXICO
New Mexico wasted no time as the Lobos jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Joanna Valencia got the start for the Cardinals (4-9,0-0) and she struggled early on going 3.0 innings while allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits.
The Lobos added three runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth on their way to an 11-0 victory. The Cardinals finished the game with four hits compared to New Mexico's 15.

Alex Alonzo led UIW at the plate with a hit apiece. New Mexico had five players with at least two hits and they were led by Jasmine Casados who had three RBI.
Jensen Main pitched a complete game for the Lobos as she picked up her second win of the season.
OFFENSIVE STRUGGLES DOOM CARDINALS
The Game started out as a pitchers duel between the Cardinals and the Bobcats. However, that changed midway through the game. Texas State took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun from Jaelyn Young.
In the fifth inning, the Bobcats added three more runs to take a 4-0 advantage, as they would go on to win the game 6-0. It was another difficult game for the Cardinals at the plate as the team only had three hits.
Christy Trevino and Haliee Alaniz led the team with a hit apiece.
Sarah Leal started for the Cardinals going 5.2 innings and allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits. Jodi Paige Williams is credited with the victory for the Bobcats, which is her third of the season.
