SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team wrapped up their regular season with an exciting four set win over Sam Houston State University in the McDermott Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set was a constant battle for the lead by both teams. The Bearkats found themselves ahead and went on a five point run to take the opening set 25-18. Sam Houston registered 12 kills and 2 errors for a .333 attacking percentage to be more efficient over the Cardinals 12 kills and nine errors.
Julia Monday and
Sarea Alexander both tallied seven kills to lead UIW to a 25-18 victory in the second. The Cardinals had a noteworthy 20-9 advantage over the Bearkats. Sam Houston went on a six point streak to ease in on UIW 23-17.
Bryaunea Hall and
Julia Monday scored the last two points of the set to shut down the Bearkats' attempt to make a comeback.
Much like the first two sets, the Cardinals beat the Bearkats 25-18. UIW had its most efficient set of the match as the squad totaled 18 kills and four errors for a .378 attacking percentage.
The Cardinals led through much of set four until Brooke White led the team on a seven point run to take the lead 18-16. UIW caught back up at 19-19 and went on to be one point away from a success at 25-24. A kill by Madison Wallace kept the match alive for the Bearkats. In a close call for the Cardinals,
Autumn Lockley hustled to save a dig going out of bounds.
Sarea Alexander went on to send one firing over the net for the game winning point. The Final set ended in a 28-26 win for UIW.
LEADERS
Sarea Alexander led the team with 17 kills and four blocks.
Julia Monday contributed 16 kills.
Madison Williams paced the team with 53 assists. Defensively,
Bryaunea Hall registered seven blocks and
Madelynn Miller tallied 30 digs.
Taylor Cunningham and Brooke White each had 12 kills for Sam Houston.
