SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team suffered a three set loss to the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin in the McDermott Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Autumn Lockley opened up set one with a kill to get the Cardinals on the scoreboard. Xariah Williams got the SFA attack going and led the Ladyjacks on a five point streak. A combination of kills and UIW errors allowed SFA to open the set with a 25-13 win. The Ladyjacks proved to be more efficient than the Cardinals as they completed the set with ten kills and no errors for a .417 attacking percentage.
The Cardinals found a rhythm in the second. Both teams had their turn at the lead, but the Ladyjacks came out on top once again. UIW registered 27 kills and 14 errors while SFA tallied 23 kills and four errors for a 25-21 victory.
UIW scored three straight points for a 3-0 advantage at the start of the final set. The Ladyjacks evened the score 5-5 before going on to lead through the remainder of the set. SFA took the last set 25-17 to win the match in three.
LEADERS
Autumn Lockley led the Cardinals with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Sarea Alexander followed with nine kills and led the team defensively with two blocks.
Madison Williams paced the team with 25 assists.
Madelynn Miller tallied 14 digs for the night.
Aniya Williams and Corin Evans registered 11 and seven kills respectively.
UP NEXT
UIW will continue competition on their home court as they take on Lamar University in the battle of the Cardinals. The match will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.
STAY TUNED
UIW will travel to Huntsville, Texas to play Sam Houston State University. Competition will take place on October 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Johnson Coliseum.
