SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team is set for a week of competition on its home court. The Cardinals will face Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Lamar University on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the McDermott Center.
OPENING SET
The Cardinals (3-11 overall, 2-5 SLC) struggled in competition last week as they dropped both of their matches on the road in three sets. UIW is currently ranked ninth in Southland Conference rankings. The top eight teams advance to the Southland Conference Tournament. The Cardinals will first battle the SFA Ladyjacks before going head to head with Lamar in the battle of the Cardinals.
SFA is 16-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Ladyjacks are on a two game winning streak. Last week SFA registered a .289 team attacking percentage to top Lamar in four sets.
Lamar has a 1-4 record in the Southland and are 3-12 overall. The team ended its four game losing streak last night in a 3-1 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Before making the trip to San Antonio, the Cardinals will travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for competition against the Islanders.

SERIES HISTORY
The Ladyjacks currently lead the all-time series with a 5-2 record against the Cardinals. Last season SFA beat the Cardinals in four sets.
This will be the sixth matchup all-time between UIW and Lamar. Last season the Cardinals defeated Lamar 3-2 at the McDermott Center on October 13 and again on November 11. UIW now leads the series with three wins over Lamar's two. The Cardinals will face each other again on Tuesday, October 31 in Beaumont, Texas.
UP NEXT
UIW will travel to Huntsville, Texas to play Sam Houston State University. Competition will take place on October 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Johnson Coliseum.

The Cardinals will continue competition on the road in Abilene, Texas. UIW is schedule to play Abilene Christian in the Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 21.
