SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team gave reigning regular season champions and preseason favorite Central Arkansas all it could handle this afternoon at Benson Stadium, but the Bears came away with a 1-0 overtime victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Autumn Schwarz scored at the midway point of the 10-minute extra session, as she took a pass from Jordan Slim and banged home a beautiful shot from just outside the box. Seconds prior to the golden goal, UIW's (2-8-0 overall, 1-4-0 SLC)
Brooke Hanson hit a fantastic shot, but UCA's (7-6-0, 4-1-0) Jordan Mercuri made an even better leaping save.
UCA controlled most of the game, but the Cardinal defense was very strong and was not intimidated by the preseason favorites. The Bears ended the match outshooting the Cardinals, 13-7. Both teams had five shots on goal and the Bears had five of the match's six corner kicks.
