SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team will make the short jaunt over to UTSA for the second time this year on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest.
The Cardinals (12-35) won the first meeting against the Roadrunners (15-31), 5-2 on April 12 at Roadrunner Field. UIW is currently hitting .242 as a team on offense.
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) has been the top hitter with a .288 batting average and 27 runs batted in.
Austin Hoffman (Goodyear, AZ/Millenium HS) has raised his batting average 42 points in the last seven games and is now at .261 with 20 runs and 17 batted in. Second baseman
Trey Rodriguez (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) has been swinging a hot bat with a 10-game hitting streak where he has gone 15-for-31.
The UIW pitching staff has 7.56 earned run average after a tough weekend at Central Arkansas.
Lance Moszkowicz (Spring/Klein Collins HS) has a 4.37 ERA and seven saves in 26 appearances and 47.1 innings of work.
The Roadrunners are hitting .269 and average 4.9 runs per game. Jason Serchay and Bryan Arias are each hitting above .300 while Skyler Valentine has been the most productive hitter. He has a .295 average with 33 runs, 16 doubles, three homers and 24 batted in. Tyler Straub leads the team with 33 RBI's while C.J. Pickering and Mason George each have more than 10 doubles.
The UTSA pitching staff has a 6.05 earned run average. Chance Kirby has a team best 4.15 ERA, but is only 1-5 while Aaron Burns is 3-7 with a 4.98 ERA in a team high 72.1 innings.
