SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team struggled to keep Texas State University off the board and suffered a 22-5 loss on Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats (7-4) scored early and often. They scored in every inning except for the two innings in which UIW freshman
Austin Preiss (La Vernia/La Vernia HS) pitched. Preiss was the only Cardinal to hold the Bobcats scoreless. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowed two hits, no runs and one walk while striking out one.
The Cardinals' (3-8)
Jake Bedevian (Houston/Second Baptist School) started the game and took the loss in San Marcos. Brayden Theriot grabbed the win for the Bobcats, going 1.2 innings and allowing two hits and one run. The starting pitcher, Jeremy Hallonquist, got a no decision after pitching 3.0 innings, allowing only three hits and no runs while striking out two.
Three Bobcats collected four RBI's and Derek Scheible hit a three-run, pinch hit home run. Tanner Hill collected four hits and scored five times in their second win in as many games against UIW.
For the Cardinals,
Tanner Wall (San Antonio/Johnson HS) collected three hits and drove in a run.
Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City/Yuba City HS) got two hits and drove in two, while
Braden Martin (Andrews/Andrews HS) came in as an injury sub and finished the game 2-for-3 with a run driven in and three runs scored.
The teams will play the final game of their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
