Big Game for Cardinals

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team hosts Southland Conference rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a contest between two of the top four teams in the league at the McDermott Center.  The game will be broadcast on Time Warner Channel 323 or online at http://www.twcsportschannel.com.

The Cardinals (10-8, 5-2) have won five of their last six games, including their last three at home.  They are averaging 74.4 points per game and giving up 71.6 per game.  Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) leads the team with 15.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.  He has knocked down 43 three-pointers and is second on the team in assists and steals.  Derail Green (Houston/Klein Forest HS) and Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) aver both averaging over 12 points per game.  Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy Falls HS) has played outstanding in recent weeks and is now averaging 9.9 points and 5.2 assists per game.  He averaged 20.0 points per game last week in two games.

The Islanders (16-4, 7-1) lost their first conference game of the year on Saturday at home against Stephen F. Austin.  They average 75.5 points per game and allow 69.8 points per game.  Rashawn Thomas is one of the leading candidates for conference player of the year and is averaging 17.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.  Brandon Pye, Bryce Douvier and Hameed Ali are all averaging in double figures and the team plays a fairly tight 8-man rotation.  Ali dishes out 5.8 assists per game and nabs 2.7 steals per game.

Last year, the Cardinals and Islanders split a pair of games with each winning a close contest at home.  The star players from last year's teams, Denzel Livingston for UIW and John Jordan for A&M-Corpus Christi, are both playing in the NBDL this year.
