Las Vegas, Nev. – Trailing by nine midway through the second half, UNLV used a 33-14 run and a 52-33 advantage on the boards to defeat UIW men's basketball, 92-64, Wednesday evening from the Thomas and Mack Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jalin Hart's trey gave UIW a five-point lead, 11-6, six minutes into the contest, but UNLV quickly answered with five unanswered to knot the game at 11-all, as the Cardinals had a three-minute dry spell.
Tied 18-all with 6:48 left in the first half, UNLV used a 6-0 run to take a 24-18 lead, forcing UIW to call a timeout. A three-pointer by
Jorden Kite cut the Runnin' Rebel lead to two, 26-24, with 3:38 remaining, but UNLV closed the half doubling up the Cardinals, 12-6, to take a 38-30 lead into the locker room.
Shawn Johnson made two free throws to bring UIW within nine with 11:15 remaining in the second half, but UNLV closed the game on a 33-14 run for the win.
LEADERS
Hart led UIW (5-4) with 18 points, while also registering six rebounds and five assists.
Tyler Singleton finished with 13 points and a career-high seven rebounds.
Simi Socks finished with 17 points and four rebounds. The Cardinals shot 35 percent from the floor, 20 percent from beyond the arc, and 74 percent from the line.
UNLV (6-4) was paced by Tyrell Green with 21 points. Kris Clyburn registered a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Cheickna Dembele also scored 13 points and Troy Baxter, Jr. added 10. As a team, the Runnin' Rebels shot 48 percent from the floor, 45 percent from three-point range, and 68 percent from the charity stripe.
