Smith Earns Individual Title with Sudden-Death Playoff Victory on Tuesday

THE COLONY, Texas – Only one week ago University of the Incarnate Word women's golfer Gracie Aday won a four-hole sudden-death playoff to take the individual title at the 2016 Lady Cardinal Classic. On Tuesday men's golfer Kevin Smith made his own mark with a three-hole sudden-death playoff victory to take the individual championship and lead the Cardinals to a sixth-place overall finish at The Classic at The Tribute.

HOW IT WAS WON

UIW shot a combined 591 (+15) to sixth out of 15 programs at the two-day, two-round tournament. Murray State College won the event with a combined score of 572 (-4), followed by Tyler Junior College with a total of 577 (+1).

The individual title went down to the final put. After tying for first place with a two-round total of 141 (-3), Smith and Murray State College golfer George Whitebread entered a sudden-death playoff to decide the overall winner. Both players shot par on the first two holes of the playoff, before a Smith par on the third hole clenched the championship.
