BUCHANAN, Tenn. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's golf team earned third place at the Skyhawk Classic on Tuesday, led by
Kevin Smith's fourth-place individual finish at Paris Landing State Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals shot +10 as a team over the three-round event, finishing third out of 11 programs. UIW shot a combined 289 on each of the first two rounds, before closing out the tournament with a 296 on round three.
Host school University of Tennessee at Martin won the event and also fielded the individual winner in the 11-team, 69-player tournament.
LEADERS
Smith was the highest performer for the Cardinals, taking fourth with a combined three-round total of 216. He shot 73 on each of his first two rounds, before turning in a 70 on round three to finish even.
Remy Huston and
Caden Wylie shot +3 to finish tied for 10
th at the event. Huston turned in rounds of 70, 74 and 75 to register a three-round total of 219, while Wylie shot 73, 71 and 75.
Jeff Conflitti came in just off his teammates' pace, recording a 221 to finish +5.
Cole Solis finished +12 to take 37
th and
Chase Rios shot +14 to earn 42
nd and round out the top finishes for UIW at the event.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals will next head to Las Cruces, NM for the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State University. The event will run from Monday, Oct. 17 through Tuesday, Oct. 18.
