SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team tied with Lamar University 1-1 in a double overtime game on Sunday afternoon at Benson Stadium.
How It Happened
The UIW Cardinals (3-9-2, 2-5-1 SLC) outshot the Lamar Cardinals (1-12-3, 0-5-3 SLC) 22-9 in the game and kept control of the ball for most of the game, but it was not enough to take home the win. The first and only goal by UIW came after
Alyssa Amaya kicked the ball towards the goal, which ricocheted off the crossbar and to the feet of
Sam Batley. Batley then passed the goalie and kicked the ball into the goal to put the Cardinals up 1-0 in the first half.
For the majority of the game it looked as if the Cardinals would keep their 1-0 lead to win the game. However, at the 87 minute, UIW committed a foul which resulted in a penalty kick from Lamar. Jordan Mulnix of LU made the penalty kick which snuck right past UIW goalkeeper
Haley Nelson to tie the game 1-1. The game went into double overtime but no other goals were made.
