FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Fresh off a series victory against Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team has a big challenge on Tuesday night when they travel to #7 TCU.
The Cardinals (13-25) are just 4-16 away from home this year and will have their hands full at Lupton Park. The team is hitting .246 this year with
Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS) as the lone regular hitting over .300. He has a .304 average with five doubles, two triples and 16 RBI's.
Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) leads the team with 21 runs, 13 doubles and 21 walks while driving in 18.
UIW will have senior right-hander
Kris Looper (Wharton/Wharton HS) on the bump. He is 1-4 with a 5.53 ERA for the season, but has been pitching very well over the past few weeks. He has allowed just five earned runs in his last 23 innings and has 12 strikeouts in his last 10.1 innings of work.
The Horned Frogs (30-8) are nearly unbeatable at home with a 20-2 mark. They are hitting .288 as a team and have scored twice as many runs as they have allowed. Connor Wanhanen leads the team with a .396 batting average and .468 on-base percentage. Cody Jones is hitting .354 with 36 runs, 21 walks and 16 stolen bases. TCU will start left-hander Tyler Alexander on the mound. He is 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA, 43 strikeouts and only three walks in 49.1 innings. Overall, the team has a 2.18 ERA. Riley Ferrell handles the closer role and has 10 saves and a 0.95 ERA in 19.0 innings.
The Cardinals and Horned Frogs have met one time previously. TCU won 10-2 back on April 12, 1994 in Fort Worth.
