COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team dropped a Southland Conference match on Thursday to Central Arkansas, 4-1 at the Texas A&M Indoor Tennis Courts.
The match was originally scheduled to be played at UIW's Mabry Tennis Center, but the threat of rain and a ticking clock on the conference schedule season forced the Cardinals to move the match.
The Cardinals (2-19, 0-9) remained winless in conference play against the Lady Bears (9-5, 4-5). Central Arkansas earned the opening point of the match by winning the first two doubles matches. The team of Kelsey Williams and Allison Murphy won 8-3 at #2 while Kristina Horsikyan and Bianca Strukelj knocked off
Malisa Vatanadilok and
Taryn Strahl, 8-6 at #3.
In singles play, the Cardinals picked up their only point of the match when Strahl won at #5 over Strukelj, 6-4, 6-2. The Bears closed out the match by winning three other singles matches in straight sets. The only matches that did not finish were at #3 and #6.
The Cardinals are back in action on Friday at 10 a.m. against Southland rival New Orleans.
