AUSTIN, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team head to Austin on Tuesday for a mid-week matchup against #17 University of Texas. They play the Longhorns at UFCU Disch-Falk Field at 6:00 p.m.
Over their last three-game series against Southeastern Louisiana, the Cardinals (7-9, 1-2) tallied a total of fifteen runs off of eighteen hits to improve their team batting average to .253. In the final game of the series UIW rallied from a 10-run deficit in the final three innings to win.
Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, AZ/Yuba City HS) had a great weekend for the Cardinals and now leads the team with a .324 average with 11 hits and nine RBI's.
Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) has a .432 on-base percentage, leads the team with 11 runs scored and has a pair of home runs.
On the mound for the Cardinals,
Cody Richey (Comfort/Comfort HS) will be making the start against the Longhorns. He is making his seventh appearance and fourth start of the season. He is 0-3 with a 4.70 ERA and one save. The rest of the pitching staff is led by Garrett Cooper (Round Rock/McNeil HS) who is 3-1 on the year with a 1.73 ERA.
The Longhorns (10-6) head into the game after splitting a four game series with Stanford University. Ben Johnson had a career-high five hits in the series finale and leads the team at the plate with a .443 batting average, 31 hits and 15 RBI's. The pitching staff for Texas has a 2.78 ERA. Parker French has been the team's top starting pitcher with a 2-1 record and a 1.61 ERA while Ty Culbreth has been the top reliever making seven appearances with two saves.
