SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team plays their final regular season home game of the year on Thursday against Southland Conference rival Abilene Christian at 8 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (17-9, 9-7) will be celebrating Senior Night to honor a pair of seniors,
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) and
Winslo Barry (Nassau, Bahamas/Christian Life Center Academy), who have been key parts of the program's transition to Division I.
Livingston is a four-year member of the program and is one of the leading scorers in the nation with 22.3 points per game, but he does so much more than just score. He leads the team with 34 blocks and 67 steals and is second on the team with 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Livingston needs five assists to reach the following career milestones of 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocks. He is the third all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,671 points and owns school records for single season and career free throws made.
Barry is in his second year with the program and was one of the first Division I recruits signed by head coach
Ken Burmeister. He has played in 45 games for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals enter the contest averaging over 80 points per game, but have lost their last two games. They are 10-2 at home this year and 24-3 over the past two seasons.
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is averaging 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) is scoring 14.9 points per game. The duo has combined to make 101 three-pointers this year.
The Wildcats (10-19, 4-12) won their first three conference games this year and then lost 12 straight before beating Houston Baptist on Monday. Harrison Hawkins and Parker Wentz are each averaging over 12 points per game. As a team, they have made 227 three-pointers and are shooting nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc. UIW defeated ACU, 77-61 in Abilene on January 24.
