Cowgirls Blank Cardinals

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team rounded off a pair of Southland Conference fixtures at the Mabry Tennis Center this weekend with a 7-0 loss against visiting McNeese State on Sunday.

The Cardinals (2-16, 0-6) got off to a rocky start in the doubles competition and lost the #1 match by default after an injury to Rachel Sadiq stopped the game at 1-0. At the #2 position Matea Zemunik and Malissa Vatanadilok lost 8-0 to Hannah Brett and Julia Kral, giving the Cowgirls (9-5, 5-1) the majority and the first point of the day.

Going into the singles matches, Sadiq's injury meant that she was unable to play at the #1 seed and the roster moved up a position to fill in.  The loss of Sadiq was too much to overcome for the team as each of the Cardinals lost in straight sets.

The best performance for the Cardinals came from Vatanadilok, who took a 4-1 lead against Hannah Brett in the first set, but ended up losing 6-4, 6-4.

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday when they head to Beaumont to play Lamar University at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The Southland Conference match-up will begin at 2 p.m.?
