SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team continued their Southland Conference schedule on Saturday and dropped a 6-1 decision against Nicholls State University at the Mabry Tennis Center.
The Cardinals lost the first point of the day after losing the doubles competition and despite looking strong in the early stages of the singles contest they were unable to get the win against the Colonels (13-3, 6-0).
At #1 singles,
Rachel Sadiq (Frisco/Frisco HS) lost after a three set battle, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, while
Matea Zemunik (Jesenice, Croatia/Marko Marulic) and
Sarah Savedra (El Paso/El Paso HS) both lost in straight sets at the #2 and #3 positions. UIW's lone point of the day came from
Malisa Vatanadilok (San Antonio/Bridgeway Academy) at #4, who despite losing the first set 6-3, came back to win the second and third sets 6-3, 6-2 against Milou Pietersz.
Antea Dedic (Split, Croatia/Opca Gimnazija) and
Maria Batchinsky (San Antonio/Alamo Heights HS) lost in straight sets at the #5 and #6 positions taking the Colonels count to six.
UIW are back in action on Sunday when they host McNeese State at 11 a.m. in another Southland Conference match-up at the Mabry Tennis Center.
