SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team is hosting a three-game series with Prairie View A&M this weekend at Sullivan Field.
The teams will open the series at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.  They will finish the series with a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday and a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.

The Cardinals (7-13) are hoping to get back on the winning track after falling into a 4-game losing streak.  They are hitting .250 as a team while opponents are hitting .318.  Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS) and Ethan McGill (Penn Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) have been the team's top two offensive players this year.  Divelbiss has five multi-hit games in his last seven starts.  He is hitting .362 with a .511 slugging percentage and 11 RBI's.  He is ranked in the top 10 in the Southland Conference in batting average and slugging percentage.  McGill is hitting a solid .338 with a team high six doubles.

Junior Geno Encina (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) will be making his first start of the season on the mound.  He was 7-7 with a 2.64 ERA last year, but has been limited to 5.0 innings of work this year due to an injury.  Garret Cooper (Round Rock/McNeil HS) and Brandon Anderson (Cheyenne, WY/Cheyenne Central HS) will likely start the final two games of the series.  Cooper is 3-2 with a 4.03 ERA while Anderson is 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA.

The Panthers (7-12) are hitting .241 as a team and opponents are hitting .309 against them.  Walter Wells is the only regular hitting over .300 with a .352 average that includes six extra-base hits and 19 runs scored.  Connor Wrye has slugged three home runs and driven in 17 while Anthony Fernandez leads the club with 22 RBI's.  Jordan Stewart and Alberto Aveytia are the top starting pitchers on the team.  Stewart is 2-2 with a 4.32 ERA and Aveytia is 2-2 with a 4.60 ERA.  Closer Grant Dougherty has not allowed a run in 7.2 innings of work and has three saves.
