HOUSTON, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will be traveling to Houston for the game against the Houston Baptist Huskies on Thursday at 6 P.M.
The Cardinals (5-18, 2-10 SLC) are coming off a tough loss to the Sugar Bears of the University of Central Arkansas (14-10, 7-5 SLC) on Sunday afternoon. UIW threatened to pull off the upset, but came up a little short. This puts the Cardinals on their eighth straight loss. They are averaging 57.9 points per game, 37.8 rebounds, and twelve assists per game.
After being out of play due to a leg injury,
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) is back in the lineup and scored 16 points in her last game. She is averaging 13.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Yvonne Maosa (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) is the top rebounder on the team with 7.3 boards per contest and she chips in with 8.7 points per game.
Shanise Brooks (Topeka, KS/Highland Park HS) scored 16 points in her last game and is averaging 7.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
The Huskies (10-14, 4-9 SLC) won their most recent game against Sam Houston State, 66-61. Shanice Steenholdt is the top player on the team and is averaging 17.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting 53.2 percent from the field. Rachel Arthur and Tayler Jefferson are each averaging in double figures. Jefferson is also the team's lone three-point shooting threat with 31 on the season.
