WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team was held to a school record low 27 points on Thursday night in their 95-27 loss at Purdue University at Mackey Arena.
The Cardinals (3-5) never led in the game and only scored nine points in the first half, including a lone basket in the second quarter. The Boilermakers (7-2), a team receiving votes in the AP Top 25 poll this week, dominated the contest from start to finish. They had seven players score between nine and 15 points in the game.
UIW was held 16.4 percent shooting from the field although they made 4-of-14 from three-point range. They made 5-of-6 free throws, but committed 25 turnovers.
Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) scored nearly half of the team's points with 12 on 5-of-16 shooting from the field.
The Boilermakers shot 63.8 percent from the field, made 10-of-15 from three-point range and were 11-of-12 at the foul line. Ashley Morrissette was a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range and finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Bree Horrocks came off the bench to score 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field. April Wilson just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 assists while Bridget Perry had nine points and eight rebounds. They had 31 assists in all.
The Cardinals are back in action on Monday when they travel to Texas Tech for a 6:30 p.m. start.
