University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

2015-16 (Junior):  Garcia Paunero played in 29 games in her first season as a Cardinal. She was one of four players to participate in every game this season. One of the motivators on the team, Garcia Paunero finished third in minutes played with 747 minutes. Never scored in double figures in a game, but had between 7 and 9 points in nine different games.  She grabbed a season high nine rebounds in just 18 minutes against Nicholls.

Previous:  Garcia Paunero played at Otero Junior College for two seasons.  She averaged 20.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in 2014-15.  She shot 53.7 percent from the field and also led the team with 60 steals.  As a freshman, she averaged less than nine minutes per game and scored 3.3 points per game.  She earned all-region and All-American honors as a sophomore.

High School:  Garcia Paunero attended IES Julian Marias and played on the basketball and tennis teams.  She led her team to a regional title in basketball.

Personal:  Garcia Paunero is the daughter of Francisco Garcia Alvarez and Ana Isabel Paunero Leon and is studying psychology with a minor in kinesiology.  She has a sister, Clara.  She is a member of the UIW International Student organization.  She was born on October 15, 1995 in Valladolid, Spain.  Her father has been a professional basketball coach for 29 years and is currently coaching in Brazil.
