CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word women's soccer team hits the road on Friday to play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.
The Cardinals (3-9-1, 1-3-1) were held scoreless last week, but they still managed a tie against Northwestern State. Freshman
Sydney Huntsinger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) took over in goal for the team last week and did not allow a goal in 155 minutes of action.
Abigail Koenigs (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) and
Emani Stewart (Victorville, CA/Hesperia HS) are tied for the team lead with four goals apiece. Last year, the Cardinals and Islanders played to a 1-1 tie in San Antonio. The Islanders scored in the first half, but the Cardinals were able to tie it with a goal by
Jazma Latu in the 82
nd minute.
The Islanders (1-8-2, 1-3-1) and the Cardinals are tied in the Southland Conference standings. They just won their first game of the season against Southeastern Louisiana by a 2-1 score last week. Both their goals came in the second half after falling behind due to a penalty kick. Hailey Sutton now leads scoring with three goals. Megan Delaney is the team's goalkeeper playing all 1030 minutes of the season. She has a 2.01 goals against average and has made 77 saves.
