LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's swimming & diving team lost a dual meet to Grand Canyon University on Saturday, 213-85 at UC San Diego's Canyonview Pool. All three schools competed in the meet, but the Cardinals did not keep score against UC San Diego. (

The Cardinals did not win any events, but had a number of top four finishes.
Aaron Moran (Helotes/Brandeis HS),
Connor Hennessy (San Antonio/Business Careers HS) and
Brendan Schaffer (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg HS) each notched runner-up finishes. Moran touched the wall second in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:54.02. Hennessy was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:42.65. Schaffer took second in the 3-meter diving with 239.40 points.
Moran added top four finishes in two other events. He was fourth in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:55.23 and fourth in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:16.00.
David Moore (San Antonio/Marshall HS) was third in the 400 IM in a time of 4:14.93 and fourth in the 200 fly in 1:55.95.
Mehdi El Hazzaz (Casablanca, Morocco/Al Jabr) did well in the freestyle events. He was third in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:44.35 and fourth in the 100 freestyle in 47.01.
Alex Ramirez (Spring/Oak Ridge HS) chipped in with a third place in 3-meter diving. He scored 232.80 points in the event.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at home against Southwestern University at the Barshop Natatorium.
