EL PASO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team will face off against the Miners from the University of Texas-El Paso on Friday at 8 p.m. and then continue West to play New Mexico State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Anne Felts, the fourth head coach in UIW's 25 seasons of competition, will be leading the Cardinals on the field. Incarnate Word (0-2-0) is coming off a pair of 2-0 losses at Nebraska-Omaha and Creighton last weekend.
The Miners (2-0-1) tied Texas State last week, 0-0 in front of 1,026 fans. They did snag a victory over Abilene Christian on Sunday in the first overtime. During the middle of the week they hammered New Mexico State, 5-0 with all of the goals coming off set pieces. Goalkeeper Sarah Drilling has yet to allow a goal this season.
The Aggies (0-3-0) have opened the season with three straight losses and have been outscored 10-2. Jennae Cambra has scored both goals for the team.
This is the second all-time meeting between the Cardinals and Miners. UIW won the first time they played back in 2001. It is the first-ever meeting for the Cardinals and Aggies.
The Cardinals are looking to avoid the team's first 0-3 start since the 2004 season. The team will need to score early against UTEP to avoid the longest span without a goal to start a season for the program. In 2007, the Cardinals went 203:36 before scoring their first goal. They would end up scoring 50 goals during that season.
