SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team picked up a 4-1 victory over visiting Laredo Community College on Thursday.
The Cardinals (4-14) picked up the lone doubles point available and then won three of the four singles matches that were played. Jennifer Betancourt (Valencia, Venezuela/La Salle Guaparo) and Taryn Strahl (San Antonio/Churchill HS) each had two wins for the Cardinals.
Betancourt swept past Milena Vitez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and teamed with Sarah Savedra (El Paso/El Paso HS) for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Strahl knocked off Kim Rodriguez 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and combined with Kelsey Reblin (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) for a shutout win at No. 2 doubles.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday against Southland Conference rival Lamar University at 11 a.m. at home.
