CONWAY, ARKANSAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas on Sunday at the UCA Tennis Courts.
The Sugar Bears (12-9, 5-6) took an early lead in the match and never looked back. Their No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams picked up easy victories to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles action, UIW No. 1 player
Ivana Katavic (Split, Croatia) defeated Simona Horsikyan 6-4, 6-3 to earn the only point of the day for the Cardinals (5-17, 1-10).
Andi Botha (Praetoria, South Africa) was the only other player for the Cardinals to force a third set. She ended up losing to Kristina Horsikyan 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
The Cardinals only have one more match remaining in their inaugural season of NCAA Division I. They travel to Southland Conference rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start.
