Box Score WACO, TEXAS – One swing of the bat was the difference in the game between visiting University of the Incarnate Word and Baylor University on Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark in college baseball action. The Bears won 5-2 thanks to a three-run homer by Aaron Dodson.
The Cardinals (7-18) got a strong performance from freshman
Cody Richey on the mound. He went 6.0 innings scattering six hits and allowing four runs in a tough luck loss.
When Richey left the game, UIW was trailing 4-2.
Aaron Warren got the team on the board in the fourth inning when he led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. They narrowed the gap in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single by
Mark Whitehead.
The Cardinals threatened to score in both the eighth and ninth innings, but each time the Baylor bullpen was able to wiggle out of the jam. They put runners on second and third in the seventh and first and third in the eighth, but could each time Baylor was able to get the critical out.
Dillon Newman improved to 3-1 on the season for the Bears (14-13). He allowed six hits and two runs while striking out four in 6.0 innings. Doug Ashby tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and then Josh Michalec recorded the final four outs to earn his 10
th save of the season.
Both teams had eight hits in the game.

Jason Stone each had two hits for the Cardinals. Matt Menard had a pair of hits and scored twice for the Bears and Dodson went 1-for-3 with a homer and four RBI's.
The Cardinals and Bears will meet up again on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Baylor.
