SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team's upcoming series with Hofstra University has been moved up a day in order to avoid inclement weather.
The Cardinals (3-9) and the Pride (3-4) will open their four-game series on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Field. On Friday, the teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. The final game will be played on Saturday at a time to be determined.
The Cardinals are currently hitting .252 as a team with a .352 on-base percentage.
Slade Brown (Keller/Keller HS) leads the team with a .354 batting average while freshman
Mark Whitehead (San Antonio/Johnson HS) has been on fire lately. Whitehead is 9-of-13 with six walks in his last four games. He leads the team with a .456 on-base percentage for the season.
The Pride is hitting .230 as a team and is averaging less than four runs per game. Kenny Jackson leads the team with a .429 batting average that includes three doubles and two home runs. The pitching staff has a pair of top talents in starter David Jesch who is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA and closer Brett Schreiber who has two saves and no runs allowed in 4.2 innings.
