SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team could not hold onto an early lead against visiting Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday and lost, 5-2 at the Mabry Tennis Center in Southland Conference action.
The Cardinals (3-11, 0-4) took the initial lead when they won 2-of-3 doubles matches to earn the lone point available.
Ivana Katavic (Split, Croatia) and
Andi Botha (Pretoria, South Africa) won at No. 1, 8-5 while
Sarah Savedra (El Paso/El Paso HS) and
Jennifer Betancourt (Valencia, Venezuela) won 8-6 at No. 2.
In singles action, the Lions (10-3, 5-2) went to work winning five of six matches in straight sets. Reginka Nychytailova got things started at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-1 win and it went downhill from there for UIW. Only Botha was able to notch a win with her 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Margaux Kaltenbacher at No. 4.
The Cardinals are back in action on Friday at New Orleans for a noon start time.
