Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team was held scoreless in a doubleheader at St. Mary's on Sunday.  The Rattlers won 3-0 and 1-0 at the St. Mary's Softball Stadium.

In the first game, the Cardinals (9-10) had two more hits than the Rattlers (23-4), but St. Mary's came through with a few clutch hits.  In the fourth inning, the Rattlers used a hit by pitch, walk and a single by Nicole Sardelich to plate a run.  They added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a steal of home and Sardelich's second run-scoring single.

Vianna Gutierrez picked up the win for the Rattlers.  She allowed five hits and a walk while striking out four in a complete game.  Brooke DuBois (Pearland/Pearland HS) took the loss for UIW after allowing three hits, three runs and a walk in 4.2 innings.  Mia Esposito (San Antonio/O'Connor HS) and Lindsey Hood (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) each had two hits for the Cardinals.

In the second game, Whitney Waltrip (Orangevale, CA/Casa Robles HS) and Emily Brittain engaged in a pitcher's duel.  Waltrip took the loss for UIW despite allowing just five hits, one run and a walk in 6.0 innings.  Brittain earned her 13^th win of the season after tossing a 2-hit shutout.

The Rattlers scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Hannah Fields led off with a single and then Katie Nichols doubled with one out to score the run.

The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday at home against Texas Southern.  The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
