Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped a 12-1 decision to visiting Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

The Cardinals (5-14) and Chippewas (10-9) were engaged in a pitcher's duel for the first six innings of the game.  UIW starting pitcher Brandon Cogbill (Lake Dallas/Howard College) went 5.0 strong innings allowing five hits, one run and one walk while striking out four.  Neither team scored until the top of the sixth inning.

The Chippewas offense came alive in the final three innings as they scored 11 times to turn a close game into a blowout.  CMU starting pitcher Nick Deeg tossed 8.0 innings of shutout ball surrendering just six hits and no walks while striking out seven to get the win.  They finished the game with 15 hits as four players had multi-hit games.  Nick Regnier went 2-for-6 with two runs and three RBI's while Neal Jacobs was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Cardinals finished the game with seven hits, five of them were by Slade Brown (Keller/Keller HS) and Jonathan Armijo (San Antonio/Marion Military).  Brown was 2-for-3 with a walk while Armijo went 3-for-4. 

The two teams will play the series finale on Sunday at 11 a.m.
