SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team remained winless on the season after suffering a 5-2 loss to visiting UT-Pan American on Sunday at the Mabry Tennis Center. The Cardinals are now 0-4 on the season.
The Lady Broncs (2-3) won two of three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. The Cardinals briefly had thoughts about a comeback as they won at #1 and #2 singles, but the visitors won the final four singles matches to earn the victory.
Ivana Katavic (Split, Croatia) was the top player for the Cardinals. She teamed with
Andi Botha (Pretoria, South Africa) at #1 doubles to defeat Wanda Beguelin and Christel Amsallem, 8-6. In singles action, Katavic knocked off Didi Fatchikova, 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 at #1 singles. Freshman
Sarah Savedra (El Paso/El Paso HS) picked up the only other point for UIW with her 7-5, 62 win over Mariana Ranzahuer at #2 singles.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Texas State for an 11 a.m. start.
