SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word Men's Tennis top St. Mary's University this weekend with a confident 5-2 victory at the Mabry Tennis Center.
UIW opened the match by winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point.
Leonard Ivic (Podstrana, Croatia/Economic Administration) and
Josip Smoljan (Citluk, Bosnia/Srednja Skola) played to a tie breaker against Raickovic Philipp and Jared Fellows to win 6-5, 10-8.
In singles action Ivic, Smoljan,
Tucker Brown (New Braunfels, TX/ New Braunfels HS) and
Brandon Davis (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) each won in straight sets at #1, #2, #3 and #4 singles.
Antonio Cavazos (El Paso, TX/ Cathedral) lost his first set against Bob Resink 6-2 but came back in the second to win 6-5 and take the game to a tie breaker. He lost 10-4 in the final set.
Brody Rodriguez (Austin TX, Cedar) lost in straight sets to take the final result to 5-2 to the Cardinals.
UIW are back in action next weekend in a double header when they had to St. Edwards University on Thursday to play at 1:30 p.m. and to Loredo Community College on Friday to play at 1 p.m.
