Swimming Host Dual Meet

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word is hosting their second home swimming and diving meet of the season on Friday against nearby rival Trinity University.  The diving events begin at 5 p.m. with the swimming events starting at 6 p.m. at the Barshop Natatorium.

The UIW women are 1-3 on the season and are led by their four seniors; Kali Lents (San Antonio/Reagan HS), Celeste Morgen (San Antonio/Johnson HS), Adrienne Morrow (Hot Springs, AR/Hot Springs HS) and Lana Nguyen (Kiev, Ukraine/NPD).  Lents has won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events against Florida Gulf Coast and North Texas this year.  Morgen is the top breaststroker on the team picking up victories in the 100-yard breaststroke at University of Houston and against North Texas.  Her top time in the event is 1:04.95.  Morrow has been the best middle distance freestyler for the Cardinals winning the 200-yard free at three meets with a season best of 1:54.30.  Finally, Nguyen has been an unstoppable force in the 50-yard freestyle taking the gold in all four meets with a season best time of 23.46.  She has also won or finished second in the 100 freestyle at each meet.

The UIW men are competing in only their second meet of the season after losing to Texas A&M a few weeks ago.  The Cardinals have a young team that is still learning where they stand this year after winning the CCSA title in 2013-14.  Alex Brouwer (Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep), Connor Hennessy (San Antonio/Business Careers HS) and David Moore (San Antonio/Marshall HS) are three returners who have had past success.  Brouwer is the top sprint freestyler for the Cardinals and has come close to breaking 20 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.  Hennessy won the 500-yard freestyle against Texas A&M and is counted on to be a strong point-getter for the team in the distance events.  Moore was the CCSA Freshman of the Year in 2013-14 and can swim a variety of events.  He was second in the 100-yard breaststroke and 400-yard individual medley against the Aggies.
