SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will be looking for their first home win of the new season on Thursday as they return to the McDermott Center to host the University of St. Thomas with a tip-off at 6 p.m.
Last year, the Cardinals (1-1) went 2-0 against the Celts (2-2) with victories at home and on the road. This year, UIW is hoping to continue the trend and will be heading into the game coming off of a hard fought 50-48 victory at the University of Houston on Monday.
Two free throws taken by
Shanise Brooks (Topeka, KS/Highland Park HS) with only two seconds left on the clock allowed UIW to battle through for the final win, with both Brooks and
Yvonne Maosa (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) posting 10 points apiece.
In the early stages of the new season, the Cardinals have two players averaging double figures.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS leads with an average of 15.5 points, four assists and four rebounds, while Brooks is averaging 10 points and is 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
The Celts are averaging 61 points per game and are allowing 61.5 points per game. Danielle Parks leads the team with an average of 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Ana Dominguez leads the team defensively with 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
