NATCHITOCHES, LOUISIANA – An early goal was all that Northwestern State University needed to defeat visiting University of the Incarnate Word on Friday night in Southland Conference women's soccer action.
The Cardinals (2-12-3, 2-5-3) only allowed one shot on goal for the entire game, but it was all that was needed for the Lady Demons (5-12-1, 2-7-1). Camila Ardila scored the game-winning goal just 12:54 into the contest. After a foul by UIW, Jackie Strug took a free kick and Ardila was waiting in the box to head it home.
The Cardinals spent the rest of the game trying to get the equalizer, but were unable to score. They attempted six more shots than the Demons and fired 10 shots in the second half, including two in the final three minutes.
Alex Latham was credited with the shutout for Northwestern State. She made three saves in the game and kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard.
The Cardinals have one game left in the season and they will travel to Stephen F. Austin on Sunday 1 p.m.
