UIW Drops First Game of Season

Box Score WINTER PARK, FLORIDA – Rollins College dealt visiting University of the Incarnate Word their first loss of the season on Sunday, 3-0 in women's soccer action.

The Cardinals (5-1) and Tars (3-1) played an even first half with each team getting opportunities.  UIW had six shots, including three on goal while the Tars took seven shots with four on goal.  UIW goalkeeper Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) kept the team in the game with her four first half saves.

It was a different story in the second half when the Tars dominated play.  They fired 17 shots with 10 on goal while the Cardinals only attempted three shots in the half.  Rollins finally broke through when Brenna McKee scored after receiving a cross into the box at 56:23.  Mora Johnson and Emma Jones were each credited with an assist on the play.

Twenty minutes later it was Jones who corralled a long pass from Taylor Thigpen and slotted it past Kowalik for the crucial second goal.  Paxton Sickler tacked on another goal at 84:30 when the Cardinals were unable to clear the ball out of the box.

The loss snapped a five game winning streak to start the season for the Cardinals. They will attempt to get back to their winning ways on Thursday night at home when they kick off against UT-Permian Basin at 7 p.m. at Benson Stadium.
